And here are some intriguing facts about unicorns for adults as well:

• The Greek physician Ctesias, who wrote a book on India, is credited with first mentioning unicorns in Western literature. In the fifth century BC, he described the beast in writing as having a white body, a purple head, blue eyes, and a horn with many different colors.
• It is generally accepted that the citation refers to a donkey that once lived in India and sported a single horn on its skull.
• In his writings, Marco Polo described coming seeing unicorns. He referred to them as “ugly brutes to look at” in his description. He was elaborating on rhinoceroses.
• According to legend, Genghis Khan changed his mind about conquering India after encountering a unicorn that bowed down to him. Who knows? Maybe it was the donkey with the horn!
