She knows what she wants in her gown down to the very last detail – the color, the fabric, the glitz, the glamour. So it makes perfect sense that she would want to keep photos in her wedding album of the new couple standing with, cutting into, and enjoying the taste of a, well – very well coordinated cake.

Daring necklines, draping sleeves, garlands of pearls and intricate lace and beading details – it can all be recreated in a dazzling tower of shiny, pearlescent, or smooth fondant. Hand-piped accents capture the look and feel of the dress images the bride provides, even providing the dramatic deep color accents that are so popular today with wedding dresses of white, ivory, and even pink.

As anyone who has dealt with a bride-in-the-making before knows, it’s all about personality. She’s designing an entire elegant affair that will let her guests know she had a hand in every detail – and why not? If it never happens another day in her life, the wedding is the one day that should be “all about her.” So if she’s had her heart set on a wedding gown cake design, she can also choose to make it a thoroughly simple, tonal selection that understates the elegance, just as she does.

Of course, tradition dictates that in many cases, the most feminine of gown features be included – which is when you will find delicate lace-up details and huge bows with cascading ribbons. Bring it on. There’s nothing Vera Wang or Alfred Angelo can design that a true cake artist can’t bring to life with cake, icing, fondant and a bouquet-full of incredible skill.
