1951 – Puttin’ on the Ritz
Nothing says class like a "classic" black and white color scheme, manifested by luminous white pearls and a stylish black walking cane, with white accents. Three round tiers, in black, white, and a center tier in burnished gold make this design a true "stand out." The lower tier is decorated in three rows of black "fringe", lending an intricate, ruffled texture. The gold tier in the middle is ornamented by a ribbon band of white at its base. The top tier in sparkling white is encircled by a broader ribbon band in black, culminating in two stylized black feathers and a black rose. The stunning pearls are draped carelessly against the golden tier, and the shiny black cane stands up, at attention, on the side of the cake. A large sign, bordered in gold, declaring that this piece was commissioned to celebrate a 21st birthday, crowns the affair, the "21" in fashionable "Broadway" lettering. This is altogether an extremely swanky and chic design, ideal for a "posh" occasion.
