1843 – Jack Daniels Old No. 7
Any connoisseur of fine whiskey will recognize the allusion inherent in this piece. In this unmistakable reference to the label on a bottle of Jack Daniels, we see that it is "Joe" who is actually the recipient of the "aged to perfection" compliment. The color scheme and distinctive decorative swirls at the edge of the label suggest quite clearly that Joe is a true blue fan of Jack Daniels No. 7. The Jack Daniels company is deliberately coy about what the "Old No. 7" refers to - was it the number of the train that carried the barrels of whiskey? Did Jack Daniels really have 7 women in his life? Was "7" simply his lucky number? Apparently, we'll never know because Jack is long gone, now. But this homage is proof positive that while he may be gone, he's not forgotten.
