1819 – Red, White and Black
Turning 40 is a significant (traumatic?) occasion for most people, and possibly even more so for those of the female persuasion. Time was, 40 was considered to be "Over the Hill" and the beginning of a rapid descent into doddering old age, and jokes regarding people losing their hearing and eyesight and becoming forgetful would typically abound. Things are different (thankfully!) today, and 40 is widely considered to be merely the beginning of maturity and wisdom. This blowout affair for a 40th birthday (it's still a big one!) might even help the celebrant to be proud to be turning 40. The base tier, in white, is almost covered in demure stripes of black and broad stripes in bright red. A smaller upper tier is decked out all in flat black (per the traditional "Over the Hill" motif). A striking bow in white ribbon, embellished with a narrow band of black, completes the design and a large "40" in fanciful script tops it off perfectly. No need to feel like life is coming to an end with "Red, White, and Black" as a centerpiece!
