1669 – Rubik’s Cube

"Rubik's Cube"is a3-Dcombination puzzleinvented in 1974by Hungariansculptorandprofessorof architectureErnő Rubik. Originally called theMagic Cube, the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold byIdeal Toy Corp.in 1980and won theGerman Game of the Yearspecial award for Best Puzzle that year. As of January 2009, 350 million cubes had been sold, worldwide. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy. This particular model looks like a hybrid between a Rubik's Cube, and a fuzzy die (of the kind found hanging on people's rear-view mirrors). As you can see, our crack designers were up to the task, coming up with this creative novelty piece. Each square is colored using piped frosting, and maintaining the integrity of the colors that appeared on the original cube. The current record holder for speedily "solving" the cube is Mats Valk of the Netherlands, who took only 5.5 seconds to get all the sides back to one color each, at the Zonhoven Open competition in 2013. Perhaps Lisette would like to try her hand at beating that record - but wait a minute - not with this one! Maybe someone will give her a new one for her birthday that she can use for practice!
