1516-Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to children (and adults) around the world as "Dr. Seuss", was an American writer, poet, and cartoonist. He was, however, most widely known for his children's books. Three of the most well-known and beloved, are brilliantly illustrated on the three tiers of this novelty piece. On the bottom layer, we see the characters from "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish". The waves are executed in blue, on a yellow background, and the fish are smiling and swimming in and out of the waves and having the time of their lives. As of 2001, over 6 million copies of the book had been sold, placing it 13th on a list of "All-Time Bestselling Children's Books" from Publishers Weekly. The center tier depicts the Lorax, a cautionary tale regarding environmentalism and anti-consumerism, which was recently brought to the silver screen. The top off-kilter layer is in the form of the famous "Hat" from "The Cat in the Hat". Widely praised as an alternative to traditional primers, "The Cat in the Hat" sold millions of copies in its first three years. In 1983, Geisel said, "It is the book I'm proudest of because it had something to do with the death of the Dick and Jane primers." This opus will certainly be an excellent choice for any one year old, but anyone who's ever read a book by Dr. Seuss will be enchanted by this centerpiece.
