The wishes for wisdom are immediately apparent, in this design. What better birthday wish for a one-year old? A single tier, in pale blue, has a ring of “half dots” surrounding the base of the layer, and is emblazoned with a large number “1” which is also decorated with smaller dots. Perched atop the cake, on a branch of a leafy green tree, is that iconic symbol of wisdom, the owl. He’s dressed for the occasion, sporting a wrap of dotted fabric and a festive party hat, and he seems to be asking “Whose Birthday?” The traditional “Happy Birthday” greeting is appropriately replaced by the sentiment “Grow wise, little Nathanial” and I would be hard-pressed to come up with a better salutation!
