The "Hello Kitty" brand and character were introduced in the United States in 1976, and since that time, the white kitty with the bow has been one of the most popular brands in the country. Originally targeting young girls, the brand has expanded to include women of any age, and has become one of the most recognized brands in the world, appearing on products such as purses, shoes, lunch boxes, clothing, and high-end jewelry. This work, in three tiers, is comprised of Hello Kitty faces, hearts, bows, roses, butterflies and pink beads that set off the quilted motif on the middle layer, as well as the interlocked "C"s of the Chanel logo that has been appearing alongside Hello Kitty, recently. Strands of large luminous pearls ring each tier, and the top tier is a recreation of "Kitty-chan" herself, complete with cute little yellow nose and whiskers. This work will be a delight to any gathering of young girls.
