1829 – Bluebirds of Happiness

The symbol of a bluebird as the harbinger of happiness is found in many cultures and may date back thousands of years, one of the oldest examples found on oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty, 1766-1122 BC. Among some Native Americans, the bluebird has mythological or literary significance. According to the Cochiti tribe, the firstborn son of Sun was named Bluebird. The "Bluebird of Happiness" has been utilized in many popular song lyrics, and movies, as well. This charming work incorporates a pair of these significant birds, a pair of splendiferous red roses, and a banner that proclaims, simply, "LOVE." Whether this simple and elegant centerpiece is for a birthday, an engagement event, a wedding, or anniversary, it is fairly clear what the intent is. "LOVE" says it all, but the addition of the other nearly universal symbols of love and happiness clarifies any remaining mystery. "Bluebirds of Happiness" leaves doubt behind.
