1738 – Artists’ Delight

This tour de force was both a challenge and a joy for our brilliant designers. One look at it can tell you why. Four of the most brilliant artists of all time are represented here, in a work that celebrates a budding new artist's accomplishment - perhaps a graduation from art school with a master's or M.F.A. degree - perhaps selling her first piece of art. From top to bottom, "Piet" Mondriaan was an important contributor to theDe Stijlart movement and group. He evolved anon-representationalform which he termedneoplasticism. This consisted of white ground, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colors. In stark contrast to rigid grids and straight lines, the second tier is dedicated to one of the most beloved of all artists, Van Gogh. This rendering of the famous "Starry Night" is homage to one of the most famous and recognizes paintings in the world. The third tier brings us back to abstract art, à la Jackson Pollock. Drips and splatters of paint on huge canvases were his "calling card", so to speak. Considered one of the greatest artists this country has ever produced, his work is prized among collectors of great art. The bottom tier, is a look back at the impressionist era, and one of the most revered artists of that era, Monet. His landscapes are legendary, and considered by many to be the best of the genre. Atop this magnum opus is an easel, a canvas, and a collection of paints and brushes, indicating wishes for great success in Jillian's endeavors. "Artists' Delight" is a triumph in the art of cake decorating.
