1621 – Subaru

Subaru is the automobile manufacturing division of Japanese transportation conglomerateFuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the twenty-sixth biggest automaker by production worldwide in 2011. The first Subaru car was introduced in 1954. Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster (M45, or "The Seven Sisters"), which in turn inspires the Subaru logo (even though there are only six stars in the actual logo). "Subaru" is also Japanese for "united", referring to the six companies that merged to form FHI. The familiar logo is recreated here, in meticulous detail; the brilliant blue and silver showcased against a background of deepest black. The generous single round tier is edged in a textured ribbon band of matching blue at the base of the cake. A birthday greeting is etched in shiny silver, to match the stars in the logo. "Subaru Birthday" is a perfect selection for that fan of the famous car maker.
