Elmo is one of the most beloved characters from that bastion of educational television, Sesame Street. The character inspired "Tickle Me Elmo", a children's toy from Tyco. When squeezed, Elmo would chortle. When squeezed three times in a row, Elmo would begin to shake and laugh hysterically. The toy was introduced in the United States in 1996, quickly becoming a fad. Short supply, due to the unexpected demand, led to an increase in price. In some instances, violence among customers occurred over the limited stock. People" magazine reported that the toy, originally sold at $28.99, fetched as much as $1500, via private sales. This cheerful work, starring Elmo, of course, is done up in bright, primary colors as the base colors of each tier. Dots, numbers, and letters, in various colors are strewn all over the design. Elmo himself sits on top of this cake, reminding little two-year-old David to have a "Happy Elmo Birthday!"
