Carousels, also known as “Merry-Go-Rounds”, have been around for hundreds of years, the earliest known depiction of one being a Byzantine bas-relief dating to around 500 A.D. This delightful three-tiered opus in white, calls to mind images of days gone by. The bottom tier is ornately hand-painted and serves as the rotating circular platform upon which the hand-carved and artfully painted horses mounted on posts are perched. The center tier conceals the mechanism and the top tier acts as the overhead canopy. Gold, green, and palest pink accent this work and bring it to life. If you listen closely, you can almost hear the calliope playing!
